Wine Tasting in Sonoma California is a great time. I find Sonoma to be more rustic flare then celebrity flare I seem to feel in Napa. The square is the place to be but don’t over look what can lye outside of the square. Sonoma is a hidden Gem with great wineries hidden all around the town and square. I had been searching for wineries I was not familiar with that are close to the square but not necessarily in the square. My parents are fans of Pinot Noir so I always try to find a new place they may not have heard of and try it out.
I had found a tasting room by R^2 (R2) which feature Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The tasting room was very inviting and seemed like you were in the living room of a friend’s house that just so happens to have a bar set up. They also have a small space outside and on a sunny day would be great to relax with a glass or share a bottle.
I decided to order a glass of the Red Birds Pinot Noir. This wine was very delicious! The visual was a deep burnt red typical of a nice pinot.
Wine Notes:
Nose: earthy, burnt wood, and rain with hint of cloves.
Taste: was raspberry, strawberry, oak, tobacco, cooking spice but very smooth. This was a great representation of a Pinot Noir.
I usually prefer Willamette valley pinot noir but this representation of Sonoma coast was awesome! I recommend if you are ever in Sonoma to stop by and try their wine. They also make a really nice red blend that my husband enjoyed. The price point for this wine was dead on and not over priced. Check them out! at: www.r2winecompany.com
